Rich “Fons” Fonseca – Head Coach

Coach Rich “Fons” Fonseca will enter his second season as the Head Coach for the 18U Blue team and Fire N’ Ice Director. This will be Fons’ seventh year with Fire N’ Ice. In his previous seasons, he has served both as an Assistant coach and Head Coach for the 18U Red team. The 2023 season 18U Red team was made entirely of graduating senior athletes. Fons is currently an Assistant Softball Coach at Brown University and formally an Assistant Coach for Rhode Island College for 2 seasons. Prior to FNI, Fons played college baseball at Johnson & Wales University where he later was an assistant coach for 6 seasons.

Joe Baris – Assistant Coach

Coach Joe returns for his 2nd year as the 14U Head coach, as well as an assistant with the 18U Blue team. Last season, the 14U team compiled a 32-7 record under his guidance. Coach Joe is a successful veteran coach with a plethora of knowledge, having coached for several years with Coventry Girls Softball League. Coach Joe played baseball at Sacred Heart University. Above all his knowledge, our girls genuinely enjoy playing for Coach Joe, which is the ultimate compliment as a coach.

Joe Bell – Assistant Coach

Coach Joe Bell is back for his 3rd season as an assistant coach on FNI Blue. If you are looking for passion and intensity, look no further than Coach Joe Bell! Coach Joe Bell brings it every day in practice or game, so the team will certainly have someone to match their energies with.

Mary Holt-Kelsch – Assistant Coach

This is Coach Mary Holt-Kelsch’s2nd season with FNI. Coach Mary is the Head Coach for Brown University. She has many years of college coaching experience, including time at Rhode Island College, Lafeyette, and URI. In addition to her coaching experience, Coach Mary was an instructor at Planet Fastpitch in Uxbridge, MA. At Kent State University, she was a 3-year starter. She will function as an advisor and consultant for the organization.
